The Diocese of Cincinnati was established in 1821, the ninth diocese in the United States, and was elevated to an archdiocese in 1850. Its mother church, the Cathedral of Saint Peter in Chains, was built in 1845 at Eighth and Plum Streets and renovated in the 1950s. The archdiocese serves Catholic parishes across southwestern Ohio.
