About

Established in 1846 as the Archdiocese of Oregon City, the see was renamed the Archdiocese of Portland in Oregon in 1928 to reflect Portland's growth and to distinguish it from the Diocese of Portland in Maine. Its mother church is St. Mary's Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, whose current building opened in 1926. The archdiocese covers western Oregon.
