Liberty University is an accredited evangelical Christian university founded in 1971 by Pastor Jerry Falwell Sr. in Lynchburg, Virginia. It grew from Falwell's Thomas Road Baptist Church but operates today as an independent evangelical institution rather than a denominationally affiliated one. Liberty is among the largest Christian universities in the world, offering undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs including a School of Divinity.
