Musmeah Yeshua on 26th Street is the only synagogue in Myanmar. A wooden building was raised in 1854 by Baghdadi Jewish traders and the present stone synagogue replaced it in 1896. It follows the Edot Hamizrach rite. The community it served numbered in the thousands before the Second World War and now stands at a few dozen people, so the building is maintained more as a trust than as a weekly congregation.
