Shiloh Baptist Church was organized in 1804 in Fredericksburg, Virginia, and its Washington, D.C. congregation was formally constituted in 1863 by members who fled to the city during the Civil War. The church relocated to its current Shaw neighborhood sanctuary at 9th and P Streets NW in 1924 and is one of the oldest Black congregations in Washington. It has hosted numerous presidential visits, including President Barack Obama's attendance at an Easter service in 2011.
