Union Theological Seminary was founded in 1836 in New York City by nine Presbyterian ministers but today operates as an independent, ecumenical seminary with no formal denominational affiliation. Affiliated with Columbia University, it is known for progressive Protestant theology and trains students across a range of faith traditions. The seminary is located at Broadway and 121st Street in Manhattan.
