About

The Holy Saviour Cathedral, known as Vank, was founded in 1606 in the New Julfa quarter of Isfahan, the district settled by Armenians deported there by Shah Abbas. It belongs to the Armenian Apostolic Church and its interior carries frescoes that combine Armenian iconography with Persian ornament. The cathedral remains in use by the Armenian community of Isfahan and keeps a museum and a printing press collection.
