The Seven Ray type carries fourteen debated or debunked facts of seventy total, twenty percent, against an atlas wide baseline under one percent. Read ray by ray, it is not fourteen different arguments. It is two findings, restated once for each of the seven named rays: Will and Power, Love and Wisdom, Active Intelligence, Harmony through Conflict, Concrete Knowledge and Science, Devotion and Idealism, and Ceremonial Order and Magic.

A Modern Coinage Mistaken for an Ancient One

Every one of the seven rays carries the identical name-origin note, word for word: "the Seven Rays, with their qualities and planetary and colour attributions, are a Theosophical coinage of the modern period (Blavatsky, later systematised by Bailey), not a pre-modern tradition. The sevenfold pattern reuses older planetary and cosmological sevens, but the rays as taught belong to the twentieth-century synthesis."

A Claim of Ancient Descent, Examined and Set Aside

Every one of the seven also carries the identical note on scholarly standing: "a historiographical judgement, not an experimental result. The ray scheme is a metaphysical teaching and has never been the subject of a study. What historians examined and set aside is its claim of ancient descent. Superseded: the academic study of Western esotericism treats the Seven Rays as a modern Theosophical construction rather than the survival of an ancient wisdom tradition, and reads the appeal to antiquity as a strategy for claiming authority rather than a line of descent."

Seven Rays, Not Fourteen Arguments

What changes from ray to ray is a name and a set of attributions; the argument against ancient descent and the argument for a Theosophical coinage are each written once and carried, unchanged, to every sibling ray in the set.
