The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Milwaukee filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on 4 January 2011 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, as clergy sexual abuse lawsuits mounted against it. On 4 August 2015 the archdiocese announced a 21 million dollar settlement, and U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Susan Kelley confirmed the reorganization plan on 9 November 2015, closing a case that had run nearly five years. Most of the fund was split among 355 claimants, with a further class of about 104 claimants receiving roughly 2,000 dollars each. The per claimant amount was reported as among the lowest of the diocesan Chapter 11 settlements reached nationwide to that point, and victim advocates publicly criticized the plan as inadequate even as the court approved it.

Key Finding
The Milwaukee case was the longest of the three, running almost five years from filing to confirmation, and produced one of the lowest per claimant averages among nationwide diocesan Chapter 11 settlements reported to that point, a contrast victim advocates raised publicly at the confirmation hearing itself. 2
