This degree's rulers are already treated in the companion article, so the older image can stand alone: a golden ball suspended from the ceiling of a circular hall. Charubel, the pen name of Welsh astrologer John Thomas, published a symbol for every degree of the zodiac in 1898, and this one is pure geometry and suspension. The hall is round, the ball hangs at no wall's mercy, and gold makes the hanging thing precious, a sun indoors. Everything in the picture is centred and nothing in it is supported from below; the value hangs, held by what is above it.
Read against the twenty fifth degree of Virgo the image suggests worth kept poised at the centre of a made order, the sign's craftsmanship producing not a tool this time but a focus, something for the whole room to organise itself around. The suspension reads as trust in structure, weight carried invisibly. Charubel's interiors are rare, which gives this one emphasis. The tradition he renewed is old: the first complete set of degree pictures survives in Johannes Angelus's Astrolabium Planum of 1494, while the still older systems of Vettius Valens's second century faces and the bounds preserved in Ptolemy's Tetrabiblos ruled spans of degrees without picturing any. The 1898 book, carrying Sepharial's translation of La Volasfera beside it, brought the whole craft to English readers. Where a natal placement, progression or synastry point falls on this degree, the symbol is read as tone, and the tone is centred value, the golden thing hung where every line of the room can find it.
