Structurally the calendar beneath that era count is a traditional South and Southeast Asian lunisolar system, twelve lunar months divided into waxing and waning fortnights rather than continuously numbered days, with an intercalary month inserted roughly every two to three years and, in some national traditions, an additional intercalary day in certain years to keep the lunar count from drifting too far from the solar year the agricultural and civil calendar still depends on.
