A Claim Without Its Own Test

No research programme has isolated clairaudience as a distinct experimental target the way Rhine's laboratory isolated telepathy and clairvoyance with separate card-guessing conditions. Where it appears in the psychical research literature, it is almost always folded into the general study of mediumship and trance communication, tested, when tested at all, using the same techniques used to evaluate a medium's claimed information overall: cold-reading analysis, comparison against what the medium could plausibly have known beforehand, and blind judging of transcripts.

Ganzfeld researchers have noted that some "receivers" report their impressions as words or an inner voice rather than images, but this is treated as a variation in reporting style within the ganzfeld protocol rather than evidence for a separate clairaudient channel. Because no controlled study has ever set out specifically to test whether people can hear real information from a source inaudible to everyone else, clairaudience carries no dedicated evidentiary record of its own, positive or negative; its status is inherited entirely from the wider and already unreplicated record on mediumship and general extrasensory perception research more broadly.
