Four Green and Three Jade are the system's clearest illustration that sharing an element does not mean sharing a reputation: both belong to wood, yet one is read as among the most consistently benign stars in the nine and the other among the more troublesome. Some interpretive traditions within Xuan Kong practice explain the split by reading Three Jade as young, unrefined wood, prone to sudden growth and equally sudden breakage, against Four Green as mature, flexible wood, capable of bending under pressure rather than snapping, though this elaboration is a later interpretive layer rather than part of the bare numerical system itself.

In practical consultation the two stars are watched for separately even when they occupy adjoining sectors in the same year, since a household with both a study, where Four Green's influence is welcomed, and a room prone to family disagreement, where Three Jade's influence is not, may need different remedies applied to sectors that sit directly next to one another on the grid.
