Ibn Ata Allah al-Sakandari's best known work, the Kitab al-Hikam, The Book of Wisdom, gathers short, aphoristic sayings on humility, dependence on God and the inner life of the seeker, a documented spare and quotable style distinct from a lengthy systematic treatise addressed to specialists alone. That style spread the book far beyond the Shadhili order itself and kept it in continuous circulation, with commentary, into the present day, a documented reach distinct from a text that remained confined to one order's own internal instruction.
He also wrote Lataif al-Minan, a devotional history of the order's first two masters, al-Shadhili and al-Mursi, a documented second work distinct in both form and purpose from the aphoristic Kitab al-Hikam, that remains a primary source for the order's early years. That one author produced both the Shadhili order's most widely read text, carried well beyond the order's own membership, and the primary historical record of the order's own founding generation is documented as a doubled literary legacy rather than a single defining book.
