Kadosh is Hebrew for holy or set apart, a name the degree shares with no other rank in the Rite's sequence and one that signals its distinct, elevated position within the Council body. It precedes the final two degrees of the Consistory body, the thirty second and the honorary thirty third, placing it well into the upper reaches of the Rite's twenty nine numbered degrees. Like Knight of the Rose Croix before it, Knight Kadosh draws on chivalric imagery, a thematic register the Council of Kadosh degrees share with the historical romance of medieval knightly orders, expressed through the Rite's own distinct symbolism rather than through any claimed institutional descent from a medieval body. The Council of Kadosh's degrees, culminating in this one, are generally treated in Scottish Rite reference literature as the philosophically and morally weightiest portion of the Rite's sequence, positioned between the more overtly Christian and mystical Chapter of Rose Croix beneath them and the closing, largely administrative degrees of the Consistory above, a structural reading that follows directly from the degree's own name and its place in the four body sequence.Cross-Tradition ConnectionsArticle OnKnight Kadosh (Scottish Rite), Initiatory Grades Well-attested Source Divinity Atlas Long-Form Articles, First Editiontier 1SourcesDivinity Atlas Long-Form Articles, First Editiontier 1Comments (0)No comments yet.
