The mounts of the palm

The mounts of the palm are the fleshy pads at the base of the fingers and around the hand, each named for a planet: the mount of Jupiter beneath the index finger, Saturn beneath the middle, Apollo (the Sun) beneath the ring finger, Mercury beneath the little finger, and the mounts of Venus, Mars and Luna about the hand. Their relative prominence is read in chiromancy as an indication of the temperament and the strength of the corresponding planetary quality.

A full mount of Jupiter, for instance, is read as ambition and leadership, a full mount of Venus as warmth and vitality, tying the reading of the hand to the planetary correspondences of astrology.
