Set against that is the figure it crowns: Ophiuchus was identified in antiquity with Asclepius, the divine physician, the serpent-bearer who could raise the dead until Zeus struck him down, which is why the constellation holds the serpent, the emblem of healing and renewal that still marks medicine. The star's astrological reading and its constellation's meaning pull in different directions, and the honest account gives both rather than forcing them together. The Ophiuchus-as-thirteenth-sign claim conflates two different systems that this whole catalogue keeps carefully apart: the tropical zodiac used by most Western astrology divides the ecliptic into twelve equal thirty-degree signs unrelated to constellation boundaries, while the claim rests on the constellation boundaries the International Astronomical Union fixed in 1930, an administrative line-drawing exercise for astronomers that was never intended to bear on astrological practice at all. Robson's bleak delineation for Ras Alhague sits in some tension with the star's own name and figure, healer and serpent-bearer, a case where the compiled personality reading and the mythological background of the constellation point in different directions rather than reinforcing one another.Cross-Tradition ConnectionsArticle OnRas Alhague, Fixed Stars Well-attested Source Divinity Atlas Long-Form Articles, First Editiontier 1SourcesDivinity Atlas Long-Form Articles, First Editiontier 1Comments (0)No comments yet.
