When the Second Life-Stage Closes

The Second Pinnacle Ending is the age at which the second of the four life-stages comes to a close. It is found simply by adding nine to the First Pinnacle Ending, since every pinnacle after the first runs for nine years. Thus a person whose first pinnacle ended at thirty-one closes their second at forty, and one whose first ended at twenty-seven closes the second at thirty-six. The Second Pinnacle is read as the middle season of adult life, in which the influence of a new number governs the years between the first ending and this one.

Unlike the variable-length First Pinnacle, the remaining three stages are fixed at nine years apiece across every later writer's version of the chart, Florence Campbell's 1931 book and Juno Jordan's 1965 systematisation among them, which is itself a sign that the nine-year rule was settled early even as other parts of the wider pinnacle-and-cycle apparatus kept changing from one mid-century author to the next. Not every modern numerologist works with a four-stage pinnacle scheme at all: Dan Millman's widely read 1993 book The Life You Were Born to Live builds its system around the single Life Path number, without any pinnacle apparatus layered onto it, a reminder that the nine-year cadence described throughout this family of articles is a particular, mid-century elaboration rather than a feature of modern numerology as such.
