The Sufi Service Committee is a US-based nonprofit founded within the Sufi community and dedicated, in its own words, to actualizing human spiritual potential and serving those in need, a mission statement that pairs an inward spiritual aim with an outward service obligation rather than treating the two as separate programs. It is governed by a Board of Directors under the spiritual leadership of the Master of the Nimatullahi Sufi Order, with Frederick and Marjan Watson serving as its officers, a governance structure that keeps the Committee's administration answerable to the Order's own spiritual leadership.
The Committee's reach extends across more than a dozen countries in North America, Europe and Africa, a genuinely international footprint for an organization built around a single Sufi order's service mission rather than a general international relief mandate.
Its work reaches specific, named communities rather than a general undifferentiated public: it runs food and clothing programs for the homeless through its Boston chapter, has funded welfare, community service and medical equipment for a partner foundation in Cote d'Ivoire, and has provided grant support and technical assistance to communities including the Santa Fe Indigenous Center, three distinct programs across three different countries under one Committee.
