The Order of Nine Angles affirms the Seven Fold Way, a graded initiatory system of seven stages through which the practitioner is meant to ascend by a combination of magical, physical, and experiential ordeals toward what the group calls adepthood and beyond. The Order is a secretive, decentralised network that emerged in Britain in the late twentieth century, propagating an extreme occult philosophy. Researchers who study the group, including several academic scholars of contemporary esotericism, hold that "Anton Long" is probably a pseudonym used by David Myatt, a British far-right activist with a documented history of neo-Nazi organising who later converted to and then left Islam; the correspondence they cite includes close thematic and stylistic parallels between texts published under Long's name and Myatt's own separately published writing. Myatt has consistently denied being Anton Long, and the Order itself rejects the identification, though Myatt has acknowledged some association with the group; the question remains formally unresolved but is treated as highly probable by most outside researchers who have examined the textual evidence.
