Reid Temple AME Church traces its roots to the former Dent Chapel of Bladensburg, Maryland, purchased in 1900, with the modern congregation opening a sanctuary on Michigan Avenue NE in Washington, D.C. in 1964 before relocating to Prince George's County. It has grown into one of the largest AME congregations in the United States, with membership exceeding 9,000 and a worship center seating 3,000. The church operates Reid Temple Christian Academy and a Bible college and awards over $150,000 in scholarships annually.
