Ayyam-i-Ha (the Intercalary Days) are four or five days inserted into the nineteen month, nineteen day Bahai calendar immediately before the final month of fasting, set aside in the Kitab-i-Aqdas for hospitality, charity, gift-giving to children and general festivity. Unlike the two Bahai holy days on which work is suspended, Ayyam-i-Ha is a joyous but not obligatory-rest observance, widely kept in Bahai communities worldwide as a family and community celebration comparable in tone to a new year festival.
