Jerrahi Order

The Jerrahi order, known in Turkish as Cerrahiyye or Cerrahilik, is a Sufi tariqah descended from the Halveti order. It was founded by Hazreti Pir Muhammad Nureddin al-Jerrahi, who lived from 1678 to 1720 and was a direct descendant of Muhammad through both parents, and who is buried at the site of his tekke in Karagumruk, Istanbul. During the late Ottoman period the order spread widely through the Balkans, particularly Macedonia and southern Greece, and it now describes itself as a cultural, educational and social relief organization. The head convention of the Halveti-Jerrahi order remains in Karagumruk, Fatih, Istanbul, with branches across Turkey, Europe, Australia, South Africa, South America and North America, including congregations in Los Angeles, New York City, Mexico, San Francisco, Toronto and Chicago.
