A Tibetan thangka of the late 13th century, "The Dhyani Buddha Akshobhya", held by the Honolulu Museum of Art under accession number 6191.1. Akshobhya, one of the Five Dhyani Buddhas and the presiding figure of the eastern direction in Vajrayana cosmology, is painted as the central subject, seated in the meditation posture with his hand touching the earth, the earth-touching gesture by which he is traditionally recognized. The background carries smaller repeated images of all Five Dhyani Buddhas arranged around him. The painting's artist is recorded as unknown.
