A detached folio from an unidentified Islamic manuscript, Iran or Turkey, circa 1580 to 1590, painted in opaque watercolor, ink and gold on paper. Israfil is the angel of Islamic tradition who will sound the trumpet on the Day of Judgment, and this folio is one of a small group depicting him individually rather than within a narrative scene. Held today by the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, Smithsonian's National Museum of Asian Art, under accession S1986.219.
