A copper alloy appliqué figure titled "Joseph of Arimathea from a Deposition Group," British(?), ca. 1125 to 1150, once part of a larger sculptural group showing Christ taken down from the cross. Joseph of Arimathea is the wealthy council member who, according to the Gospels, asked for Christ's body and provided the tomb for his burial. Held today by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Medieval Art department, under accession 17.190.769.
