Ian Harris' Buddhism in a Dark Age, published by the University of Hawaii Press in 2013, is a scholarly history. Its strength is that it is a sustained academic study of a specific, difficult period, Cambodian Buddhism under the Khmer Rouge, drawing on documentary and survivor evidence. Its limit is the ordinary one for a single national and period focused history: it does not itself cover Buddhism in other times or places.
