The Canons of the Second Council of Orange are the church's own official record of the doctrinal decisions reached at the 529 CE council, fixing the Western Christian position that grace precedes all good human action and formally condemning the proposition that any person is predestined by divine power specifically to evil. As the council's own primary canonical text it is the correct source for what was actually decided, in the church's own official language, rather than a later theological summary. Its limit is that it records the council's formal decisions without theological commentary or historical context, so a claim about how these canons were later received, applied or debated across subsequent Christian history needs a scholarly historical source to interpret alongside this primary document.
