Cornplanter: Chief Warrior of the Allegany Senecas, Thomas S. Abler's 2007 academic biography from Syracuse University Press, part of the Iroquois and Their Neighbors series, documents Canawaugus, the shared Seneca village birthplace of Cornplanter and his half brother Handsome Lake, alongside Cornplanter's military and diplomatic career. Its strength is that it is a full length scholarly biography by a professor of anthropology, thoroughly researched from the documentary record. Its limit is that Cornplanter left few of his own written words, so much of his private motivation in this biography is necessarily inferred from others' accounts of him rather than from his own voice.
