Das Geheimnis der Runen (The Secret of the Runes)

Das Geheimnis der Runen is Guido von List's own primary text, issued first as a periodical article in 1906 and then as this 1908 monograph, and this record cites it only as the primary record of List's own claims, not as historical evidence about ancient runic practice. It sets out the eighteen rune Armanen row that List said was revealed to him during a period of blindness following cataract surgery in 1902, an origin story this record states as List's own account rather than a documented historical transmission. Use it to establish what List himself claimed and the specific Armanen system he set out; it is not evidence that this eighteen rune row reflects any documented pre-modern runic tradition, which needs a dedicated runological source such as Mees's history of runology under National Socialism for the system's later politicized reception.
