Gregory of Tours's Decem Libri Historiarum, or History of the Franks, is the primary sixth century chronicle by the bishop of Tours who wrote as a participant in and near contemporary observer of the events of early Merovingian Gaul. Its authority is that of a primary eyewitness and near eyewitness historical source for the period, which is why it remains the principal narrative source historians use for early Frankish history.
