T.M. Charles-Edwards's Early Christian Ireland, Cambridge University Press, 2000, is the standard modern academic history of Christianity's arrival and early establishment in Ireland. Its own careful treatment separates the contemporarily attested figure, Palladius, first bishop sent to the Irish believing in Christ in 431 CE by Pope Celestine, from the far better remembered Patrick, whose traditional 432 arrival date and death, disputed between 461/462 and 492/493, rest on retrospective annalistic reckoning rather than a contemporary record. Reliable for exactly this kind of careful chronological distinction; not a source for a devotional or hagiographic reading of Patrick's own life.

Reliability Tier
1
Major university press academic monograph, the standard modern reference for the period; treats the well documented 431 Palladius mission and the far less securely dated Patrick tradition as genuinely different in kind rather than collapsing them into one retrospective legend, which is exactly the distinction this atlas's own Ireland spread event needs to make honestly.
Notes
Used for the 431 CE Palladius mission and the separately dated, far less securely fixed Patrick tradition.
