Egyptian Astronomical Texts

Otto Neugebauer and Richard Parker's edition works directly from the diagonal star tables painted on Middle Kingdom coffin lids, the earliest surviving physical evidence for the Egyptian decans, transcribing and analyzing that primary archaeological material rather than describing decan astrology at second hand. That direct grounding in dated physical artifacts, checkable against the tables themselves, is the study's real evidentiary basis. This record has not independently traced a documented history of scholarly disagreement with Neugebauer and Parker's specific readings. Use it for the documented origin and content of the Egyptian decan system as recorded on these star clocks; a claim about how decans were later absorbed into Hellenistic astrology needs a separate source.
