Fear of God and the Beginning of Wisdom: The School of Nisibis and the Development of Scholastic Culture in Late Antique Mesopotamia, Adam H. Becker's 2006 study from the University of Pennsylvania Press, is a major scholarly account of the Church of the East's leading theological school. Its strength is that it is a peer-reviewed academic monograph drawing directly on Syriac source material. Its limit is that its focus is the School of Nisibis specifically, so it should not be treated as a general history of the wider Church of the East.
