Amir Khusrau's Khazain ul-Futuh, composed in 1311, is a primary medieval text with no modern publisher of its own, the contemporary account of Alauddin Khalji's campaigns by a courtier who accompanied him. Its strength is that it is a direct eyewitness record of the 1303 siege of Chittor, written close to the event by someone present for it. Its limit is precise and worth stating plainly: this primary source does not mention Padmini and does not describe any mass immolation there, a claim that entered the tradition only centuries later through a different, literary text.
