A Pew Research Center report, published August 9, 2012, presenting survey findings on Muslim religious identity across nearly forty countries, including the share of Muslims in each country who say they belong to a Sufi order. It finds Sufi order membership highest in Senegal, where 92 percent say they belong to a brotherhood, and generally higher across sub-Saharan Africa than in South or Southeast Asia, the Middle East or Central Asia, with no single country's figure standing in for a worldwide total since sectarian and order affiliation data of this kind have never been comprehensively collected everywhere Muslims live.
