Sikhs.org hosts an English translation, by Kulraj Singh, of the Sikh Rehat Maryada, the code of conduct developed by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) from 1931 and formally adopted in 1945. Article XVIII, Anand Sanskar, states that a Sikh man and woman should enter wedlock without regard to caste or descent, that a Sikh's daughter must be married to a Sikh, that child marriage is forbidden, that no Sikh should accept a match for monetary consideration, that generally no Sikh should marry a second wife while the first wife is living, and that a widow or widower who wishes to remarry may do so through the same Anand Karaj ceremony as a first marriage.
