Sri Dalada Maligawa: The Sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic (Central Cultural Fund)

Sri Dalada Maligawa, The Sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic, published by Sri Lanka's Central Cultural Fund and read here in its 2023 hosted page, is the government heritage body's own account of the temple as part of the Sacred City of Kandy, inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988, and of the living continuity of devotion to the tooth relic it houses. Its strength is that the Central Cultural Fund is the statutory body actually responsible for the property, so its account of the site's heritage status and physical description carries institutional authority a secondary account would not. Its limit is that an agency responsible for managing and promoting a heritage site writes from within that custodial role rather than as an independent historian, so a claim about the relic's contested medieval history and the multiple competing tooth relic traditions across Buddhist Asia needs a scholarly source alongside this one, which speaks to the Kandy temple's present status rather than to that wider historical dispute.
