The Pearl of Great Price is a primary scripture of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, compiled from translations and revelations attributed to Joseph Smith and canonized by the church in 1851 during his successors' leadership. As primary scripture it is the strongest possible source for what the church itself canonically teaches in these specific texts, since it is the church's own scripture rather than a later summary. Its limit is that its individual component texts, including the Book of Abraham, have specific and separately contested claims about their origin and translation that are the subject of significant scholarly disagreement outside the church, so questions about the texts' historical origin need a dedicated source beyond the scripture itself, which speaks to doctrine rather than to that historical dispute.

1
One of the Latter-day Saint standard works of scripture, first compiled in 1851 and canonised in 1880, read here as the tradition's own primary canonical text.
Notes
The shortest of the Latter-day Saint standard works, first compiled by Franklin D. Richards in Liverpool in 1851 and canonised in 1880. It contains the Book of Moses, the Book of Abraham, Joseph Smith's own account of the First Vision and the coming of the Book of Mormon, and the thirteen Articles of Faith of 1842. The Book of Abraham's relationship to the Egyptian papyri from which Joseph Smith said he translated it is the subject of a long and unresolved scholarly dispute, and the church has published its own essay on the question.
