Edward Dimock's The Place of the Hidden Moon, University of Chicago Press, 1966, is a scholarly study. Its strength is that it is a serious academic treatment of erotic mysticism in the Vaishnava-Sahajiya cult of Bengal, drawing on the tradition's own Bengali texts. Its limit is the ordinary one for a study now nearly sixty years old: later scholarship on Bengali Vaishnavism has continued to develop the field beyond what one 1966 monograph could cover.
