The Sources for Early Babi Doctrine and History

Denis MacEoin is a scholar of Babi and Baha'i history, and this academic book, published by the academic press Brill, is a detailed source critical study examining the manuscript and textual foundations for the early history of the Babi movement, the nineteenth century Iranian religious movement from which the Baha'i Faith later emerged. Its strength is rigorous manuscript level source criticism, assessing which early accounts of Babi history are reliable primary evidence and which are later, more polemical or hagiographic reconstructions. Its limit is that it is a specialized academic study aimed at readers with background in the field, focused specifically on the sourcing problem rather than serving as a general narrative introduction to Babi history for a first time reader.
