Alejandro Jodorowsky and Marianne Costa's The Way of Tarot: The Spiritual Teacher in the Cards, Destiny Books, 2009, an English translation of the 2004 French original, is a primary tradition text, not a scholarly study. Its strength is that it is the fullest modern statement of the school reading the Marseille tarot's pip cards from number and suit alone, written alongside Philippe Camoin's own restoration of the Conver woodblocks. Its limit is that its pip meanings belong to one specific modern lineage and are not shared by the older French cartomantic lists descending from Etteilla; it should be read as one school's own account, not the tradition's only account.
