The Gosho are the collected writings and letters of Nichiren, the founder of the Buddhist movement that bears his name, so this is a primary source in the founder's own words rather than a later account of his teaching. As such it is the strongest possible evidence for what Nichiren himself actually taught, since nothing stands between the reader and his own writing. Its limit is that the Gosho were written as pastoral letters and treatises addressed to specific followers in specific historical circumstances, not as a single systematic exposition, so later Nichiren Buddhist schools have sometimes interpreted the same letters differently, and a claim about how any particular modern Nichiren school understands his teaching needs a separate source for that school's own interpretation.
