Pacific Lutheran University's Archives and Special Collections, in its own finding aid for the United Lutheran Church in America Records, records that the General Council of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in North America, the General Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in the USA and the United Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in the South merged in 1918 to form the United Lutheran Church in America, noting the three bodies had already issued a Common Service in 1888, formed a Home Mission Arbitration Commission in 1907 and removed doctrinal differences by constitutional amendment in 1911, and that the merged church became part of the Lutheran Church in America in 1962.
