Ariel Sabar's Veritas: A Harvard Professor, a Con Man and the Gospel of Jesus's Wife, published by Doubleday in 2020, is an investigative journalist's book-length account that identified and unmasked the actual forger behind the so-called Gospel of Jesus's Wife papyrus fragment and the Harvard scholar who had championed its authenticity. As investigative journalism rather than peer-reviewed scholarship it carries a reliability tier of two accordingly. Its strength is that Sabar's reporting, built on original interviews and documentary research, is what actually established the forgery and identified the forger, work no peer-reviewed article had managed before it, and the book is now the standard reference on the case.
