In 1914, Pentecostal ministers drawn from three separate bodies, the Apostolic Faith Movement, the Church of God in Christ and the Christian and Missionary Alliance, met at Hot Springs, Arkansas to found a single new organisation, the Assemblies of God. They came together seeking three things at once: doctrinal unity across scattered independent congregations, legal standing the movement's earlier informality had not provided, and a coordinated missionary enterprise none of the separate bodies could run alone.

The organisation that emerged from that meeting did not stay a national body only. It grew into the United States branch of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship, binding its own congregations into a structure spanning far beyond the small Arkansas town where its founders first gathered around a single shared conviction.

What the 1914 founding changed for Pentecostalism's spread was scale on a level none of the three founding bodies had reached separately: the Assemblies of God became the world's largest Pentecostal body, reporting 2.98 million adherents as of 2023, a single organisation grown from one meeting of ministers seeking to unite a movement barely eight years removed from its own beginning at Azusa Street.
