On 26 July 2024, the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, meeting in its forty-sixth session in New Delhi, India, inscribed the Moravian Church Settlements on the World Heritage List as a transnational serial property. The listing joined three newly recognized congregation towns, Bethlehem in Pennsylvania, United States, founded in 1741; Herrnhut in Saxony, Germany, founded in 1722; and Gracehill in Northern Ireland, United Kingdom, founded in 1759, to Christiansfeld in Denmark, founded in 1773 and already inscribed on its own in 2015. It was the first transnational, serial nomination to the World Heritage List led by the United States, and made Bethlehem the twenty-sixth World Heritage site in the country. The Committee recognized the four settlements as outstanding examples of the Moravian Church's own ideal city planning and its worldwide missionary diaspora in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Federal and international dignitaries held a formal dedication ceremony in Bethlehem on 17 October 2024.
