Jewish sages are the rabbinic scholars of the Mishnah, Talmud and later halakhic tradition whose teaching, legal rulings or preserved sayings shaped Judaism's own interpretive tradition, distinct from a modern rabbi serving a single congregation or a scholar who studies Judaism from outside it. A figure belongs here for a body of preserved teaching that later tradition treats as authoritative.
