The solution, a glass-walled tower of manuscript stacks enclosed within an outer shell of thin translucent marble panels, admits a warm filtered light into the surrounding reading and exhibition space while blocking the ultraviolet wavelengths that damage organic materials, a design still regarded as influential in library architecture today. Inside, the library holds Yale's most valuable rare books and manuscripts, a collection built through gift and purchase across the twentieth century rather than through any single founding acquisition, spanning a Gutenberg Bible, extensive American and English literary archives, and historical manuscripts from around the world. The Voynich Manuscript entered this collection later than most of its most famous neighbours, arriving only in 1969, and remains among the most requested items in the library's holdings precisely because its script and language have never been convincingly deciphered by any of the many codebreakers, linguists and computer scientists who have attempted it.Cross-Tradition ConnectionsArticle OnBeinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library, Yale University, Custodians & Museums Well-attested Source Divinity Atlas Long-Form Articles, First Editiontier 1SourcesDivinity Atlas Long-Form Articles, First Editiontier 1Comments (0)No comments yet.
