A museum in Colmar, Alsace, installed in the buildings of a thirteenth century Dominican convent (founded 1232, secularized in the French Revolution) and opened to the public in 1853 after the Societe Schongauer restored the abandoned convent church. It has held the Isenheim Altarpiece, moved there after the Antonite monastery at Isenheim was dissolved, since the nineteenth century, and the altarpiece remains its single most visited work.
